Animal of the Month

Seahorses are small, oddly shaped, bony fish in the genus (Hippocampus) and belonging to the family Syngnathidae, which includes pipefish and sea dragons.
Seahorses, usually found among sea grass beds and around mangrove areas, use a prehensile tail to anchor themselves and can adjust their color to blend in with their surroundings. They have a fused mouth which can act like a siphon, sucking up any small shrimp or crustaceans happening by.
Seahorses have very unique breeding habits and interactions, from elaborate courtship dances to monogamous mating. It is the male seahorse who gives birth.
