Sunflower Creative Arts’ Shakespeare for Everyone Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Sunflower Creative Arts, in partnership with Target®, will present a performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, 1801 North Ocean Blvd., Feb. 7, at 1:00 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheatre. The 75-minute adaptation will be performed by Sunflower Creative Arts’ new children’s repertory theatre group, Shakespeare for Everyone. Admission is free. 

“This is a great introduction to Shakespeare for the whole family,” said Susan Caruso, director of Sunflower Creative Arts. “Who can resist romps in the forest, fantastical fairies and an adorably mischievous sprite wreaking havoc on a group of poor foolish mortals?

“This performance will be all the more special performed in a real forest setting at Gumbo Limbo,” she added

This production promises to be a unique experience in children’s theatre. As with all of Sunflower Creative Arts’ theatre programs the young actors, ages 8 to 14, have been given an unusual amount of freedom to make choices and to explore their characters’ quirks. Actors perform in full costume, with scripts in hand, so they can concentrate their energy on bringing their characters to life. The script has been cut to a shorter version, but not a single word has been changed from the original Shakespeare text.

“It’s hard to believe that this exceptional cast is one of our youngest,” said Caruso. “The energy that they have brought to “Midsummer” is amazing!”
